One Patient, One Record.

Today, when a patient moves to another clinic, their record stays behind and they start again. With MedVault One, Maria’s record goes with her, from a clinic in Windhoek to a clinic in Rundu.

  • Nothing is retold or lost
  • Works with or without internet
  • Only a clinic she approves can read it

The Windhoek clinic has internet.

The desk computer at this clinic works on its own. It does not need a Vault, the low-cost hardware we created for clinics without internet.

Maria scans the clinic code.

The clinic desk computer shows a code. Maria scans it with her phone and taps yes.

The Windhoek clinic desk opens her file.

Her name and her records appear on the clinic desk computer. Staff at that desk can add to her file, and every update lands on her phone straight away. The file stays locked. Only this clinic can read it.

Then she travels to Rundu.

The facility she is visiting there does not have internet. Her phone still has the file.

The Rundu clinic has a Vault.

The Vault is the low-cost hardware we created. Her phone and the Rundu clinic desk computer both connect to it. They do not need the internet.

The Rundu clinic desk sees the Windhoek visit.

Same name. Same details. The visit written at the Windhoek clinic desk is already there.

The file travelled with Maria.

The Windhoek clinic desk used the internet. The Rundu clinic desk used the Vault. Maria did not start again.

The future of MedVault One.

The main story is two clinics and one phone. These are the edge cases, and how we plan to cover them. None of this is in the room today.

Vaults could talk to each other.

TV white space is the unused gap between TV channels. Its signal travels far. A Vault, our low-cost hardware, at a clinic with no internet could use it to reach a Vault at a clinic that has internet.

An offline Vault writes through an online one.

A clinic with no internet writes a visit. Its Vault passes the visit to an online Vault. The online Vault saves it to the cloud.

And it reads the same way back.

When the offline clinic needs the latest record, the online Vault fetches it from the cloud and passes it back.

A country of Vaults.

Each Vault reaches the next one. A Vault at a clinic with internet becomes the bridge for the Vaults around it.

The cloud keeps a locked backup.

Whenever Maria’s phone, the Windhoek clinic desk or the Rundu clinic desk gets internet, the record is backed up. The next one to get internet receives the latest record.

The Rundu clinic desk writes. Maria’s phone is offline.

Maria has already left. The next time the Rundu clinic is connected, the new visit is backed up to the cloud. Her phone has not seen it yet.

Back at the Windhoek clinic, nothing is missing.

The Windhoek clinic desk has internet, so it already has the Rundu visit. When Maria scans the clinic code, her phone catches up too.
